TREKKING TO DHONI WATERFALLS AT PALAKKAD-A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE

Dhoni waterfalls has its own mesmersing aura that one gets to experience when we pay it a visit. I visited the Dhoni hills in the January of 2020 along with my colleague Dr Vinu ,physician at Paalana Hospital at Palakkad where i was working at that time.
ALONG WITH SCHOOL CHILDREN AT THE DHONI FOREST OFFICE

The inspiration for trekking expeditions has been a long abiding passion for me since my childhood days .It is a  deep sense of appeasement and satisfaction away from the fast paced hustle and bustle of the civilization that we get to feel when we spent time with the serene and splendor beauty of the nature.

Trekking to the Dhoni waterfalls was such a venture which was planned at the whim of the moment after the busy schedules of the daily routines of the hospital

Me and Vinu took to the wheels and drove to the Dhoni hills, a mere 12 kms from Palakkad town where we were  working. To reach the waterfalls at the summit is a 4km trek from the foothills of Dhoni which could nearly take 3 hours to complete. There is a forest office the entrance where we have to register ourselves with a  meager fees of Rs 250 following which we will be assigned an experienced tour guide who will be there with our team of tourists the whole time till we reach back at the forest office again.
But when we reached at the entrance at 12pm it was closed for lunch. There are two timings for the batch of tourists to trek to the Dhoni hills,at 10 30 am and at 1 30 pm. The first team had already gone and we had to wait for the next team to get collected up for the next trek.
We waited patiently in our car. When the time arrived we registered ourselves .Our team comprised of me ,Vinu and another young couple and their two young relatives. Mr Ramesh was our tour guide assigned for the day. After a short pep talk about the aspects of the trek, the things you should do and not do during such a tour, we commenced our onward journey to the waterfalls at the summit.

THE JOURNEY ONWARDS

VINU AND GUIDE RAMESH LEADING ON THE WAY

Since i was a vlogger too ,i took my One plus 7T pro onto a Joby Gorillapod stand and started recording the scenery on both side traversing besides us. The dry leaves and foliage crushed under our foot with the rumble of the stone laded path ,the walking trail beneath the shades of the towering trees on both sides with the cool breeze whistling among the  thicket of the jungle ,we treaded forward with much enthusiasm in our hearts experiencing the scenic beauty rolling beside us. Mr Ramesh was explaining his previous experiences being a guide to the trekking teams at Dhoni hills since for the last 2 years .He was rather an energetic man with the spring of a young athlete on his feet.
During the way we get to see the different flora and fauna of the Dhoni hills especially the deer ,monkeys and elephants if we are lucky.

TREKKING ON....

The trek was a 3 hour foray after which we ultimately started hearing the sounds of flowing waters of the river ahead of us. After reaching the summit ,we entered the waters and commenced our trek through the rocks and boulders of the river. That part of the journey would not have been possible if we had come after the monsoons (June to October) when the waters was very thick and we could only watch the waterfalls from a distance.

TREKKING THROUGH THE RIVER

HAVING A LITTLE PLAYTIME

We trekked deep into the forest through the cascading river and took many gorgeous pictures of the mesmerising  nature .When we had enough, we came back downstream to the site of the actual waterfalls where it was barricaded from entering the waters .There too we had a good time enjoying the coolness  of the serenading falls and had the time of our lives .

ME IN FRONT OF THE FALLS....

When it was time to return ,Ramesh ,our guide ,suggested an abandoned stone bungalow some distance uphill which was worth a visit. So we decided to explore it too. It would turn out to be an awesome experience as well.

TREKKING TO SEE THE STONE BUNGALOW

The stone bungalow presented an eerie impression of the foreboding past of some distant British family who occupied that place .But nobody knew for sure who lived there. The adventurer inside me urged me to visit the interior of that creepy bungalow and capture some grim shots.

THE INTERIOR----

THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE EXTERIOR

After absorbing the scary aura surrounding the bungalow enveloped by the forest we decided to return back to the base of the trek-to the forest station.

THE RETURN JOURNEY....

All teams had to finish and reach back to the station within 5 30 pm each day. When we returned back ,the gratification of the amusing trip reflected on our faces .After bidding farewell to the co-trekking young couple and thanking  Ramesh for the information and guidance he provide during the entire trek ,we returned to our places with the  video clips waiting in my mobile longing  to be edited and made into a superb vlog to be uploaded to my Youtube channel.
